Welcome to Art Inspired!
Art Inspired features an art gallery, event center, and creative arts classes all in one space.

Each month, local artists showcase their artwork in our gallery, and are highlighted at First Friday Art Walk on the first Friday of each month. Our event center is the perfect place for a variety of events such as wedding receptions, charity functions, and more. Creative arts classes feature theater, music, movement, and art classes.

Art Inspired is a non-profit business that provides inclusive employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

JAMIE MCGRANAHAN - Program Manager
I began my journey with Abilities First-Art Inspired Academy in June 2013, but in reality I began my journey to fulfill my road to the academy several years ago. For eight years, I was the Lead for the Behavior Resource team with the Department of Mental health. I worked with families, contracted providing agencies and individuals with Developmental disabilities and Behavioral concerns. I became a Positive Behavior intervention support implementer. Prior to working for DMH, I was a parent/child advocate for a non-profit family group supporting families in the developmental disability community. This was driven by my passion to help families like those that had helped me when my son was young.

I also had a deep love for the arts that began when I was a child. Growing up I was a member of the National Forensic League, competitive speech and debate teams, award winning dance programs and received several awards for vocal music performance. My family has been highly involved with productions at Springfield Little Theatre, our local church and developing arts programs for the Missouri Baptist Convention. Today I have the amazing opportunity to combine those two loves, the stage and the disability community. My passion and love grow with each class, each meeting and each family I work with. My personal goal is to be developing an idea that leads into a community, not the disability community, not the arts community but the community each of us live in daily. I believe art is truly Abilities revealed thru…… we just have to help others finish their sentence.
RICHARD WHITE - Curriculum Coordinator
I have worked in the field of Social Services for over 15 years and taught in public schools for almost 10 years. I had always dreamed to find a career where I could utilize my passion for supporting individuals with disabilities, my passion for the arts, and my love for teaching. I never imagined that such a specific position even existed. In 2013, while working as a Service Coordinator for The Next Step, I learned about this exciting new program called “Art Inspired Academy” and I now have the privilege as serving as the Curriculum Coordinator on this exciting new venture.

I work with a team of incredibly talented, compassionate, and innovative thinkers and learn as much from my students and my team as I teach to others. I am anxious to watch how our program grows and am motivated by the excitement and personal and creative growth that we have seen in our students.
KELLY SHIFFLET - Program Coordinator
My background is in child and family development and I have always worked in the social work field. In 1999 I gave birth to an amazing son who has Down syndrome. He is a blessing that changed not only my personal life but also my career focus. I have worked for Abilities First for 9 years as a service coordinator and education liaison. In 2012 I had the privilege of meeting Elaine Hall and learning about The Miracle Project, a theatre program for children with autism and other disabilities. She inspired me and others at Abilities First to begin planning an arts program for our community. I am astounded that, less than a year later, we were able to get the Art Inspired Academy off the ground!

We are blessed to have an executive director and board who are very supportive. Since beginning our first classes in July 2013 we have seen beautiful creations and interaction from all of our students and volunteers. We have big plans for our classes, our students and this community. It is a blessing and a joy to be a part of this team and this program.
